《Ave Verum Corpus》

This piece originates from a 14-century Catholic hymn, originally a Latin prayer sung during the consecration of the Eucharist in the Mass. British composer Ben Parry arranged it into a contemporary choral work, whose serene and flowing melody praises the compassion of Christ and the radiance of humanity.

Ave verum corpus,

natum de Maria Virgine.

Vere passum, immolatum

in cruce pro homine.

Cujus latus perforatum

fluxit aqua et sanguine.

Esto nobis praegustatum

in mortis examine.

O Jesu dulcis, O Jesu pie, O Jesu fili Mariae.

Miserere mei, miserere mei, miserere mei.

Amen, amen, amen, aman.

《Zigeunerleben》(Gypsy Life ), Op. 29, No. 3

Composed by Robert Schumann in 1837, “Zigeunerleben” is one of Schumann’s early choral works, set to a poem by Emmanuel Geibel. The piece depicts a group of gypsies gathered around a campfire at night, singing and dancing beneath the forest canopy – a vivid image of freedom, nature, and joy that captures the Romantic imagination.

《The Snow》

Composed by Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934) in 1894 for a female chorus, two violins, and piano. The Snow features a text by Elgar’s wife, C. Alice Elgar. Through gentle melodies and luminous harmonies, the piece evokes the calm purity of falling snow–an image of serenity and grace.

O snow, which sinks so light,

Brown earth is hid from sight,

O soul, be thou as white as snow!

O snow, which falls so slow,

O heart, so keep thy glow,

Beneath the snow

O snow, in thy soft grave

Sad flow’rs, sad flow’rs the winter brave;

O heart, so soothe and save, as does the snow.

The snow must melt, must melt, must go,

Fast, fast, fast, fast as water flow.

Not thus, my soul, not thus, my soul,

O sow thy gifts to fade like snow,

Not thus, not thus,

O sow, not thus thy gifts to fade, to fade like snow.

O snow, thou’rt white no more,

Thy sparkling, sparking too, is o’er;

O soul, be as before,

Was bright, be as before,

Was bright, the snow.

O soul, be as before,

Was bright the snow,

Then as the snow, as the snow all pure,

O heart be, but endure,

Not as the snow, not as the snow.

那些忧伤的花儿勇敢地度过寒冬;

不要让你的恩赐像雪一样消散;

你的闪光也已消逝;

《Rise, Shine!》

“Rise, Shine!” is a traditional African American Negro spiritual, passed down through generations during the era of slavery in the American South. It expresses a deep yearning for light, freedom, and divine deliverance amid hardship. In this modern arrangement by Marques L. A. Garrett and Tom Trenney, the music bursts with rhythmic vitality, gospel energy, and heartfelt conviction. Its call to “rise and shine’

becomes both a cry of faith and a celebration of hope — a radiant symbol of resilience and spiritual triumph.

改编者 Marques L.A.

Oh, oh, rise, shine!

For the light is a-com-in’;

Rise, an’ shine!

My Lord says he’s com-in’ by an’ by.

Rise, shine! For the light is a-com-in’;

My Lord says he’s com-in’ by an’ by.

Oo, my Lord says he’s com-in by an’ by.

Until I reach that mountaintop,

My Lord says he’s com-in’ by an’ by.

Oh, rise, shine!

For the light is a-com-in’;

My Lord says he’s com-in’ by an’ by.

Rise, an’ shine!

《Hometown》

This is part of the choral suite songs of “Overseas Wanderers”, lyrics by Guoke and music by A Tang.  It captures the quiet longing of those who live far from home. Through gentle, heartfelt melodies and simple yet moving words, it reflects on distance, memory, and the enduring bond between a wanderer and the place they once called home. The music unfolds with warmth and depth, leaving a lingering sense of tenderness and reflection.

梦中寻觅的,就是家乡;

梦也难寻时,就是历尽风霜;

[Recitation]: Who long been away from home are not homesick?

Even if he’s settled down in another town;

Even if he says ‘No, I’m not” or holds his tongue;

His homesickness will keep him up at night;

Drowning in wine, while the bright moon pierces through the window.

[Lyric]:  How long must one live in a place, before it can be called “home”?

How many sufferings must one endure, before it is regarded as “experience”?

How far must one travel, before it is considered a “journey”?

It is my hometown that I search for in my dream;

When the dream becomes vague, then it means I’ve settled down.

The journey back home is far and long.

《On Country Road》

From the cantata “The Song of Great Wind”, lyrics by Guoke and music by Lechang Chen. “On Country Road” weaves together classical imagery and modern lyrical expression, depicting the scene of Liu Bang returning to his homeland after ascending to the throne. Through music and poetic language, the song evokes the serenity and warmth of the countryside, while conveying a sense of historical depth.

Ah! How much caring?
How much longing?
How much affection?
The fields of my homeland, the rivers and mountains,
The fields of my homeland, the rivers and mountains—only in dreams we meet again and again!

Crossing the fields,
I see crows perched around the village grove,
The wind stirs the tavern’s hanging curtains.
Crossing the fields,
Amid joyful hopes, smoke rises from every household,
Spring fills my chest, spring fills my chest.
Crossing the fields…

《Song of the Phoenix》

From the Cantata “Patch the Sky”, Lyrics by GuoKe and music by Anlun Huang. The “Song of the Phoenix” portrays the phoenix as a symbol of hope and resilience amid a chaotic world. Through its lyrical and expressive melody, the piece conveys the steadfast call for light and renewal in the face of darkness. It serves as an emotional and spiritual bridge, leading into the cantata’s climax where Nüwa restores order to the world.

没有光,也不能歌颂黑暗;

没有光,也不能歌颂黑暗;

The phoenix greets

Day’s light with song.

The darkness shrouds her Wutong tree,

With crows is not where she belongs.

Absent the sun, she can’t sign in the honor of the darkness.

Absent light, she must tell Nuwa what’s wrong.

[all] The phoenix greets the sun, its song echoes through the heavens.

《Song of Life》

From the cantata “King Yu”, lyrics by Guoke and music by Yuankai Bao. “Song of Life” explores the origin and continuity of life through poetic imagery and reflective thought. Opening with the questions, “Where were we thousands of years ago? Where will we be generations later?”, the song sets a contemplative tone. The recurring line, “unceasing, life goes on,” underscores the enduring and resilient nature of life.

晨风送来婴儿的娇啼;

Where were we thousands of years ago?

Where will we be generations later?

Mankind thrives by procreation.

Life goes on in spite of calamities.

You are looking at me over the mountains.

I am gazing at you across the ocean.

Mankind thrives by procreation.

Life goes on in spite of calamities.

Constellations constantly rotate one after another.

Countless dynasties replace one another.

Time and again human beings appeal to the heavens;

Generation after generation our lives are rooted in the Earth.

Morning mists block the gun smoke.

Morning breezes bring the cry of a baby.

Morning dew nourishes the budding grass;

The grass embraces the first rays of the morning sun.

Life is a miracle;

Dignity lies in the hearts of you and me.

Mankind thrives by procreation.

Life goes on in spite of calamities.

We inscribe peace in the sky;

We spread our love all over the Earth.

Mankind thrives by procreation;

Life goes on in spite of calamities

《A-sharp Flying as A Feather》

“A-sharp Flying as A Feather” is the Anthem of Qing-Yu Choir. The lyrics were written by Qing-Yu veteran member Guòkè  and composed by Lechang Chen. The lyrics convey the Qing-Yu Choir’s pursuit of musical ideals and their hopes for continual self-growth.

《Dandelion》

The song “Dandelion”, composed by Pan Xingzimin, is a movement within his Choral Suite “Flower’s Narrative”.  “Dandelion” illustrates the image of the dandelion seeds taking flight on the wind, symbolizing the confusion, helplessness, and hesitation in life, serving as the final destination and continuation of emotions and thoughts. Pan Xingzimin won First Place in Choral Composition at “The American Prize” in 2018 for this choral suite, making it one of his representative works.

《Empty World》

The song “Empty World” was originally created as the theme song for the movie “I want us to be together”. The lyricist, Haitao Wang, was deeply moved after reading the novel and script, leading him to write the line: “So many people in this world, how lucky I am that we have us.” This sentiment inspired him to invite Karen Mok to perform the song. The producer, Kuo-Fu Chen, believes the song is so moving because it speaks to the extremely low probability of two people meeting in a relationship and how precious this fate is.

《Baba Yetu》

“Baba Yetu”  is a stunning choral work composed by Christopher Tin, originally written as the opening theme for the video game “Civilization IV”. Its lyrics are a Swahili translation of the Lord’s Prayer, blending sacred text with vibrant African rhythms and harmonies. The song’s rich orchestration and uplifting melody express a universal message of faith, gratitude, and unity. With its fusion of classical and world-music elements, Baba Yetu transcends language and culture, inviting all who hear it to celebrate life and connection.

Baba yetu, yetu uliye mbinguni, yetu, yetu amina.

Baba yetu, yetu uliye, jina lako litukuzwe.

Utupe leo chakula chetu, tunachohitaji.

Utu samehe makosa yetu, hey!

Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe waliotukosea.

Usitutie katika majaribu, lakini utuokoe.

Na yule muovu, milele! Amina!

Ufalme wako ufike, utakalo lifanyike duniani kama mbinguni.

Amina. Milele na milele, nakusifu.

《Sing Gently》

This is a choral work born out of the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, composed by Eric Whitacre. It calls for compassion, kindness, and human connection in a time of physical separation. Though the language is simple, its message is profound — to sing gently, as one, in support and unity. Its musical texture guides singers and listeners toward a shared space of warmth, solace, and collective voice.

May we sing together, always
May our voice be soft
May our singing be music for others
And may it keep others aloft
Sing, sing gently, always
Sing, sing as one
May we stand together, always
May our voice be strong
May we hear the singing and
May we always sing along
Sing, sing gently, always
Sing, sing as one
Singing gently as one

 愿我们的声音轻柔温暖;

 愿我们的声音坚定而洪亮;

《Rasa Sayang》

“Rasa Sayang” (literally “Feeling of Love”) is one of the most cherished folk songs from the Malay Archipelago, shared among Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. With its joyful melody and playful rhythm, the song celebrates affection, friendship, and the human connection that transcends distance and time. The phrase “rasa sayang” combines two Malay words: rasa, meaning feeling or emotion, and sayang, meaning love, dear, or affection. Together, they express a deep warmth of heart — the gentle kindness that binds people together.

Rasa sayang, eh!

Rasa sayang sayang, eh!

Eh, lihat nona jauh,

Rasa sayang sayang, eh!

Anak semilang di tapak tangan,

Pucuk pauh delima batu.
 犹如芒果嫩芽与红石榴花;

Hilang di mata di hati jangan,

Sungguh jauh di negeri satu!

Lenggang lenggang kangkung,

Kangkung tepi telaga.
 在那清凉的池塘边;

Mari melangkong,

Melangkong ke Singapura!

Singapura!

Mari ke Singapura!

Rasa sayang, eh!

Eh, lihat nona jauh,

Rasa sayang sayang, eh!

Rasa, rasa sayang!

《I Love You / What a Wonderful World》

“I Love You / What a Wonderful World” is a tender and inspiring choral arrangement by Craig Hella Johnson, weaving together “I Love You” with the timeless classic “What a Wonderful World.” The piece begins intimately, expressing personal love and human connection, then gradually expands into a luminous affirmation of hope, beauty, and peace. Through rich harmonies, flowing piano lines, and interwoven choruses, Johnson transforms these two songs into one continuous expression of gratitude — a celebration of love that embraces the whole world. It’s a work that moves from the individual to the universal, from “I love you” to “What a wonderful world”, reminding us that every act of love reveals the world’s inherent beauty.

这首歌由Craig Hella Johnson编曲,将《I Love You》和 经典名曲《What a Wonderful World》巧妙融合。

We can be together now, and forever; I love you, I love you.

And when I’m praying, I hear him saying, “I love you, I love you.”

People all over the world, they’re opening up, they’re coming around,
 and they’re saying, “I love you, I love you.”

I see skies of blue and clouds of white,

Bright,blessed day and dark,sacred night;

And I think to myself,

“What a wonderful world.”

The colors of the rainbow,

So pretty in the sky,

are also on the faces of people going by.

I see friends shaking hands saying, “How do you do?”

They’re really saying, “I love you, I love you.”

I hear babies cry, I watch them grow;

They’ll learn much more than I’ll ever know,

And I think to myself, “what a wonderful world, wonderful world,

What a wonderful world.”

《Hallelujah Chorus》

The “Hallelujah Chorus” is one of the most iconic and uplifting choral masterpieces ever written. Composed by George Frideric Handel in 1741 as part of his oratorio Messiah, it expresses the triumph and glory of divine kingship through majestic harmony and resounding joy.  The chorus appears at the end of Messiah’s second part, celebrating Christ’s resurrection and eternal reign. With its powerful repetition of “Hallelujah” — meaning “Praise the Lord” in Hebrew — Handel’s music captures an overwhelming sense of awe, gratitude, and spiritual exultation.  Throughout history, audiences around the world have stood in reverence when the“Hallelujah Chorus” is performed — a tradition said to have begun when King George II himself rose to his feet upon hearing it. Today, it remains a timeless anthem of faith and celebration, uniting singers and listeners alike in joyful praise.

Hallelujah! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth.

Hallelujah! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth.

Hallelujah! The kingdom of this world is become

the kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ;

and He shall reign forever and ever,

King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

Hallelujah! King of Kings, forever and ever,

Hallelujah! And Lord of Lords, forever and ever,

Hallelujah! King of Kings! and Lord of Lords!

And He shall reign forever and ever.

Hallelujah!

我主和祂基督的国;
